Marcus Rashford is set to return to Manchester United after his hopes of a permanent move to Barcelona were completely dashed. The English club has welcomed the player back to participate in pre-season preparations.
Barcelona decided against activating the €30 million buy-out clause in Rashford’s loan contract. Instead, the Blaugrana preferred to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a deal that cost the club €80 million.
While Barcelona wanted to renew Rashford’s loan, Manchester United completely rejected the proposal, refusing to even negotiate a lower buy-out clause.
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United has been in direct contact with Rashford’s camp to discuss his future. The club welcomed the winger back to training under manager Michael Carrick.
However, Rashford’s long-term future at Old Trafford remains uncertain. The club is open to discussing upcoming transfer offers, as he is currently not part of Carrick’s primary plans for the new season.
Nevertheless, there is still a slight chance the 28-year-old could stay with the Red Devils. The final decision will depend on Carrick’s ultimate stance and the nature of the bids received over the next month.
British media outlets have linked Rashford with several Premier League clubs, most notably Tottenham Hotspur. However, Manchester United’s high financial demands remain the biggest obstacle to his departure.
