Ter Stegen recently returned to Barcelona following the expiration of his loan spell at Girona. However, the German goalkeeper is fully aware that his chances of playing next season are virtually non-existent, given Hansi Flick’s preference for Joan García and Wojciech Szczęsny.

As a result, the 34-year-old began searching for an exit route, though he remains determined to preserve his substantial annual salary at Barça, which exceeds €10 million.

According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ter Stegen has become open to joining Ajax following positive discussions with the Dutch club’s sporting director, Jordi Cruyff, and Spanish manager Míchel.

The deal will only be feasible under one condition: Barcelona must cover a portion of Ter Stegen’s wages. The agreement is expected to be a one-year loan deal with a non-mandatory option to buy.

At this moment, negotiations between both clubs are progressing well, and it appears to be only a matter of time before the German shot-stopper’s move to Amsterdam is officially announced for the first time in his career.

Ajax’s management is working swiftly to wrap up the transfer so that Míchel can integrate Ter Stegen into the squad early, particularly since the team kicks off its official campaign in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers on July 23rd.
