In clear and definitive words, Julian Alvarez has confirmed his desire to leave Atletico Madrid this summer, stating that a move would be the best option for his career.
For months, the Argentine forward has been heavily linked with a transfer to Barcelona. However, Real Madrid recently entered the race, submitting an official €150 million bid just hours after Florentino Perez was re-elected as club president. Despite interest from both El Clasico rivals, Atletico Madrid completely rejected the idea of selling Alvarez. Now, it appears the player is ready to force his way out of the Wanda Metropolitano.
Speaking after Argentina’s victory over Austria at the 2026 World Cup, Alvarez stated: “I want to achieve my dream. I have spoken with the relevant people at the club and told them that the best thing for my future is to move on from Atletico Madrid.”
He added: “I know this isn’t the right time to talk about it, but I cannot hide my desire from anyone. I am just trying to be an honest person.”
Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano indicated that the “dream” Alvarez referred to is joining Barcelona, as the player has already reached an agreement on personal terms with the Catalan club. While Real Madrid is unlikely to submit a new bid after their €150 million offer was turned down, Atletico Madrid had also previously rejected a €100 million bid from Barcelona. Following Alvarez’s public comments, a new round of negotiations is expected to begin.
