Real Madrid have just secured the signing of Marc Cucurella to bolster the left-back position. With Álvaro Carreras also in the squad, Mendy’s chances of featuring under Mourinho have effectively vanished. Although the French international’s contract with Los Blancos runs until the summer of 2028, his career at the Santiago Bernabéu has been severely derailed by an astounding 24 different injuries in recent years.

The Eden Hazard Precedent: A Mutual Agreement?

Real Madrid’s management acknowledges that selling Mendy during this summer transfer window is nearly impossible. The player is currently sidelined with an injury and is not expected to return until November. Furthermore, his extensive medical history deters interested clubs from making a financial bid.

Consequently, the Merengues’ executives are prepared to open direct talks with Mendy to convince him to terminate his contract by mutual consent—a strategy previously used to part ways with Eden Hazard.

The Wage Obstacle

Mendy’s stance on the matter remains uncertain. The Frenchman currently earns a staggering €10 million annual salary at Real Madrid, a figure he is highly unlikely to match elsewhere in Europe. Real Madrid previously attempted a similar contract termination with David Alaba, but the Austrian defender refused, choosing instead to stay until his contract expired at the end of the recently concluded season.
