AC Milan have officially announced the appointment of Rúben Amorim as the club’s new first-team head coach, signing a contract that keeps him at San Siro until the summer of 2028.
The Rossoneri have undergone a massive overhaul over the past month. Following their failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, the club sacked manager Massimiliano Allegri and overhauled the entire sporting management. After holding talks with several high-profile managers—including Oliver Glasner, Matthias Jaissle, and Mauricio Pochettino—Milan ultimately selected Amorim. The Portuguese tactician had been out of management since his dismissal from Manchester United last January.
Gerry Cardinale on Amorim’s Appointment
AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale expressed his enthusiasm regarding the decision:
“We have followed Rúben for years. His incredible achievements reflect the exact style of play we want to establish here at Milan. He is one of the best next-generation coaches in Europe—young, ambitious, and possessing a footballing identity defined by modern tactics and possession-based philosophy.”
Amorim: “Coaching Milan is a Dream Come True”
Speaking on his new role, Amorim said: “There are dreams that stay with you throughout your career, and coaching AC Milan was undoubtedly one of them. I fully understand what it means to work for this club, its immense history, and its passionate fanbase.”
While the Portuguese manager enjoyed a highly successful stint with Sporting CP—leading them to two Primeira Liga titles—his time at Old Trafford was deeply disappointing, statistically marking him as one of Manchester United’s worst managers in modern history. Now, the San Siro offers him the perfect stage for redemption.
