Iraq national team midfielder Amir Al-Ammari believes the “Lions of Mesopotamia” are fully capable of defeating any opponent at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stating that every superstar is ultimately “human” and beatable.
Iraq has qualified for the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico for the first time in 40 years. However, the group stage draw placed them in a highly challenging group alongside global powerhouses France, Norway, and Senegal.
Speaking about facing Kylian Mbappé and the rest of the French stars, the 28-year-old Al-Ammari said:
“Playing against elite stars like Kylian Mbappé doesn’t spark fear in us; rather, it acts as an extra motivation. It is only natural for everyone to elevate their technical and physical game when facing the world’s best.”
The Cracovia midfielder confidently added: “At the end of the day, they are humans just like us. Football doesn’t care about big names—on the pitch, it’s 11 players against 11 players. We need to enjoy this moment, play without pressure, and fight fiercely from the first minute until the final whistle.”
