According to The Athletic, Fulham FC have entered direct negotiations with former Real Madrid manager Álvaro Arbeloa to take over the team ahead of the upcoming season.
The London-based club is currently searching for a new head coach following the departure of Marco Silva. Silva left Craven Cottage after his contract expired to take the reins at Benfica, succeeding José Mourinho, who in turn is set to replace Arbeloa at Real Madrid.
Fulham’s search for a manager is still ongoing, and Arbeloa is one of the prominent names on the table. The Spanish tactician is reportedly keen on a new challenge to revitalize his managerial career and highly welcomes the opportunity to work in the Premier League.
While Fulham have not yet made a final decision on whether to sign Arbeloa or pursue other options, the English outlet reports that the initial talks have been generally positive, with further developments expected in the coming days.
The 43-year-old manager had previously offered his services to Bayer Leverkusen. However, the German giants rejected his appointment as a successor to Kasper Hjulmand, citing a lack of necessary experience, which was evident during his recent stint at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Arbeloa took charge of Real Madrid last January, succeeding Xabi Alonso. He finished the season trophyless, managing Los Blancos in 28 matches, securing 18 wins, 2 draws, and suffering 8 defeats.
