Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta for the transfer of Ederson. The Brazilian midfielder is set to replace his compatriot, Casemiro, in the heart of manager Michael Carrick’s midfield.
United had previously agreed with Casemiro to part ways at the end of last season, with the former Real Madrid superstar now reportedly close to joining MLS side Inter Miami.
The Old Trafford board identified Ederson as their top transfer target to succeed Casemiro. Following nearly two weeks of intense negotiations, Manchester United successfully secured one of the best midfielders in Serie A for a significantly lower fee than expected.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ederson’s move to Manchester United will cost the English club just €45 million. Initial valuations had placed the player’s price tag between €60m and €70m, making this deal a massive negotiation masterclass by United’s management.
In the coming days, the 26-year-old midfielder will officially sign a contract keeping him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2031, earning an annual salary of €5 million.
During the last season, Ederson made 41 appearances for Atalanta across all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists.
