In a major blow to Barcelona and Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly secured the signing of Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi on a free transfer. The Argentine’s contract with “The Cherries” expires at the end of this month, making him one of the most coveted free agents in European football this summer.
The 29-year-old center-back was at the top of Barcelona wishlist, as the Catalan giants continue their search for a left-footed defender to fill the void left by Iñigo Martínez’s departure last year. Despite Barca’s interest, Spurs moved decisively, offering a more lucrative financial package that the player accepted immediately.

Liverpool were also heavily linked with Senesi, but Tottenham’s persistence and clear project under Roberto De Zerbi proved to be the deciding factors. An official announcement is expected shortly, with Senesi set to join the North London club in July.
Senesi was instrumental in Bournemouth’s success this season under Andoni Iraola, playing 39 matches and providing 5 assists to help the club qualify for the Europa League.
