USM Alger has clinched the 2026 CAF Confederation Cup title following a dramatic penalty shootout win against Zamalek SC.
The second leg at Cairo International Stadium ended 1-0 in favor of the “White Knights,” mirroring the first leg result in Algeria where USM Alger won 1-0. With a 1-1 aggregate score, the match went straight to penalties to decide the champion.

A Heartbreaking Night for Zamalek
Despite an early lead through an Oday Dabbagh penalty, Zamalek delivered one of their poorest performances, failing to capitalize on their home advantage.
The marathon shootout lasted for 16 kicks; Mohamed Shehata missed the final penalty for Zamalek, allowing the Algerian side to score and secure their second-ever Confederation Cup trophy.
Financial Blow and League Hopes
Losing the final is a significant setback for Zamalek, as the club was counting on the $4 million winner’s prize to settle outstanding FIFA fines.
However, the “White Knights” still have a chance to salvage their season; they can secure the Egyptian Premier League title if they win or draw against Ceramica Cleopatra on May 20th.
