Emam Ashour sparked concern among Egyptian football fans after leaving Al Ahly’s match against Enppi on Tuesday with what appeared to be a serious injury.
With Al Ahly leading 3-0, Ashour suffered a knee injury in the final moments of the game and was forced to leave the field in pain.
The Egyptian star left the pitch in tears, suggesting that the injury likely threatens his participation with his national team in the 2026 World Cup.
After the match, Ashour was seen unable to walk and left the field in a team bus.
Ashour will undergo an initial medical examination to determine the extent of the injury, followed by more thorough tests to ascertain its severity and the expected duration of his absence.
Ashour is considered one of the most important and prominent players in coach Hossam Hassan’s squad, and his absence from the World Cup, if it happens, would be a major blow to the Pharaohs’ hopes.
Egypt’s journey in the USA, Canada and Mexico World Cup begins on June 15 with a match against Belgium, followed by a match against New Zealand, and the group stage will conclude with a match against Iran.
