Real Madrid announced in an official statement that their captain, Dani Carvajal, has suffered an injury, while Kylian Mbappé faces significant challenges in his chances of being fit for next week’s match against Barcelona.
Carvajal sustained a fracture to the distal phalanx of the fifth toe on his right foot. Real Madrid’s statement indicated that his return to play will depend on the speed of his recovery.
The newspaper AS reported that initial estimates suggest Carvajal will be out for at least two weeks, meaning he will definitely miss El Clásico at the Camp Nou.
Carvajal will initially miss the matches against Espanyol, Barcelona, and Oviedo. Los Blancos hope to have the 34-year-old back for the Sevilla game, with the aim of having him ready for the final match of the season against Athletic Bilbao.
On the other hand, Le Parisien reports that Mbappé is also likely to miss El Clásico, as he has not yet fully recovered.
Mbappé’s current target date for return to the pitch is mid-May, and a return as early as the 10th against Barcelona would jeopardize his recovery and risk a setback he wants to avoid before the World Cup.
The 26-year-old Mbappé is focused on returning to peak physical condition before the end of the season to be perfectly prepared for the 2026 World Cup with the French national team, making it highly unlikely he will risk playing in El Clásico.
