Jürgen Klopp, head of global football at Red Bull, has revealed the match he is most looking forward to at the 2026 World Cup, and his choice might seem a bit unusual.
The tournament, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, kicks off on June 11 with Mexico facing South Africa. Klopp will be appearing as a pundit on German television.
During a press interview, Klopp was asked which match he was most excited about, and he revealed it was Scotland vs. Brazil in the group stage.
The former Liverpool manager explained his choice, saying, “I’m really looking forward to Scotland vs. Brazil; it promises to be very exciting because two completely different football philosophies will clash there.”
When asked about the favorites for the title, he replied, “You could name 10 teams besides Germany that have a good chance. Success in the World Cup requires luck, avoiding injuries, and having a truly high-quality squad.”
He continued, “World champions like Argentina, France, Spain, and England, as well as the Netherlands, are contenders. Portugal could be the dark horse, and Norway has a golden generation. You can never reduce the list of favorites to just three.”
He concluded by specifically praising Scotland, saying, “They can hurt opponents in many ways; they have a good team. But ultimately, by the quarterfinals, only the big favorites will remain.”
