The Times has revealed that Aston Villa is targeting Manchester City star Omar Marmoush for a summer transfer.
The departure of the “Egyptian Prince” from Pep Guardiola’s squad is becoming increasingly likely, given the player’s desire for regular playing time and his reluctance to spend much of this season on the bench.
Aston Villa was interested in signing Marmoush on loan last January, but the player preferred to stay with City and fight for his place, and Guardiola refused to let him leave at that time.
According to the latest report, Aston Villa has renewed its interest in Marmoush and is looking to entice him with the guarantee of regular playing time next season, in addition to the prospect of Champions League football, which has become a near-certain goal for Unai Emery’s team.
If Aston Villa signs Marmoush, it will be either a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy, effectively ending the player’s relationship with Manchester City.
Villa Park’s task won’t be easy, as Marmoush is attracting interest from several major European clubs, most notably Barcelona, who see him as an ideal strategic option to compensate for the expected departures of Marcus Rashford and Robert Lewandowski.
It’s worth noting that City bought Marmoush for around €80 million in the winter of 2025, and are expected to let him leave next summer for at least €60 million.
