The Bavarian giants had already mathematically secured the title in the previous round after a 4-2 victory over Stuttgart, so coach Vincent Kompany opted to field a reserve team against Mainz, who were fighting to avoid relegation.

The match saw the debut of 18-year-old Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, while Harry Kane and Michael Uliseley remained on the bench, and Joshua Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano were left out of the squad.

In the first half, Mainz completely dominated, taking a 3-0 lead through goals from Dominik Kohr in the 15th minute, Paul Niebel in the 29th minute, and Sheraldo Becker in the final moments.

This was only the fourth time in Bundesliga history that Bayern Munich had trailed by three goals at halftime, and the response in the second half was fierce.

Nicholas Jackson scored Bayern’s first goal in the 53rd minute, then Oliseh reduced the deficit with a spectacular goal in the 73rd minute, before substitute Jamal Musiala equalized – his eighth career goal against Mainz.

In the 83rd minute, Harry Kane scored the fourth goal, completing Bayern’s eighth comeback. This season, Bayern have trailed 13 times, winning eight of those matches and suffering only one defeat, against Augsburg.

With this victory, Bayern Munich reach 82 points, just three wins away from equalling Jupp Heynckes’ record for the most successful season in the club’s history, but with a superior goal difference.

Bayern Munich have scored a record-breaking 113 goals in the Bundesliga this season, just eight shy of equaling the record for most goals scored by a team in a single season across Europe’s top five leagues, currently held by José Mourinho’s Real Madrid in 2011-12.

The Bavarian giants are now preparing to travel to the French capital for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain. They will then face Heidenheim before hosting PSG in the return leg at the Allianz Arena. The Bundesliga season will conclude with matches against Wolfsburg and Cologne.

It’s worth noting that Bayern Munich will also play Stuttgart in the German Cup final on May 23 at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
