Goals from Ferdi Kadıoğlu, Jack Hinchlwood, and Danny Welbeck lifted Brighton to sixth place, while Chelsea suffered their fifth consecutive league defeat without scoring a goal – a feat not seen since 1912.

Brighton opened the scoring in the third minute when Kadıoğlu fired a low shot past defender Juril Hato after a cross from Gross.

Hinchlwood doubled the lead in the 56th minute, before Welbeck completed the rout with a thunderous strike into the roof of the net, his 13th goal of the season.

Brighton moved up to sixth place with 50 points, five points behind fifth-placed Liverpool, though Welbeck’s teammates have a game in hand. Sixth place could still qualify them for the Champions League if Aston Villa win the Europa League.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s hopes of Champions League qualification appear to be fading, with the London club potentially dropping into the bottom half of the table after the completion of this round of matches.

Chelsea manager Liam Rossinior made a point of addressing the fans after the match to apologize for the disappointing performance. In the post-match press conference, he promised to turn things around in the coming weeks.
