Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Rodri and Ruben Dias will miss Wednesday’s Premier League match against Burnley.
The Spanish star suffered an injury during the recent game against Arsenal, while the Portuguese has been sidelined for nearly two weeks with a muscle injury.
In the pre-match press conference ahead of the Burnley clash, Guardiola was asked about Rodri’s condition and replied, “I don’t think Rodri will be ready tomorrow. We’ll see in the next game against Southampton or in 12 or 13 days against Everton.”
As for Dias, he will also miss the Burnley game, but the solid defender is expected to be fit for the FA Cup semi-final.
Guardiola addressed the role of Rodri and Bernardo Silva in recent matches, saying, “The last few games were very important because of their experience, but they both have very special personalities. They come back young, yet they have a lot of experience, having played in many of these matches.”
He added, “We went 16 or 17 months without Rodri. The team’s success depends on the players we have, and if they are in the right place, we can compete. That’s why I’m very happy with the players we’ve had without Rodri.”
It’s worth noting that City won the Carabao Cup by defeating Arsenal 2-0 in the final, and they still have a chance to win the FA Cup and the Premier League with only eight matches remaining in the season.
