Manchester United took a giant step towards securing their return to the Champions League after Matheus Cunha’s first-half goal was enough to overcome a struggling Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s hopes of qualifying for Europe’s premier club competition are now in serious jeopardy after suffering their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat, only the second time this century they have endured such a run of losses.
The Blues have failed to score in all four of those defeats, and their net has remained untouched since March 4th.
Liam Rosenior’s side were unlucky on three occasions, with the woodwork denying Estevão (who left the field in the 16th minute after suffering his second hamstring injury in a month), Liam Delap, and Wesley Fofana.

Despite the home side enjoying more possession and having more shots on goal, it was the visitors who secured the three points thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ cross, which Cunha expertly finished into the net.
With this assist, Fernandes increased his tally to 18 assists in the league this season, leaving him just two shy of equaling the all-time Premier League record.
This result takes Manchester United to 58 points, maintaining their third-place position and a comfortable 10 points ahead of sixth-placed Chelsea, who occupy the final Europa League qualification spot.
