Real Madrid defender Raúl Asensio has been left out of the squad traveling to Germany for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.
According to Spanish media reports, Asensio suffered a sudden bout of gastroenteritis and stomach pains, leading coach Álvaro Arbeloa to keep him in Madrid.
Asensio joins a growing list of Real Madrid absentees for the match against the Bavarians, which already includes Rodrygo and Thibaut Courtois due to injury.
The good news for Real Madrid is the return of Ferland Mendy, who missed the first leg due to injury. This partially compensates for Asensio’s absence, as the Frenchman can also be relied upon at center-back.
Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappé will lead Arbeloa’s side against Bayern, with Gonzalo García, Brahim Díaz, and Arda Güler also available as attacking options.
Real Madrid’s full squad list for the Bayern Munich match is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Lunin, Fran González, Javi Navarro.
Defenders: Carvajal, Militão, Alaba, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Carreras, Fran García, Rüdiger, Mendy, Hoesen.
Midfielders: Bellingham, Camavinga, Valverde, Arda Güler, Dani Ceballos, Thiago Alcântara.
Forwards: Vinícius Júnior, Kylian Mbappé, Gonzalo García, Brahim Díaz, Mastanuño.
