Brighton are reportedly keen to sign Manuel Neuer in the upcoming summer transfer window, should the opportunity arise, according to English media reports.
The 40-year-old’s contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the current season, and the two sides have yet to reach an agreement on an extension.
According to recent reports, Brighton are aware they are likely to lose their Dutch goalkeeper, Bart Verbrücken, in the summer transfer window, and manager Fabian Hürzler’s preferred option is to sign Neuer for his final European appearance.
Brighton are not alone in their interest in Neuer; Tottenham are also monitoring the situation. However, Spurs must first secure their Premier League survival before considering their summer transfer plans.
Manuel Neuer’s stance on a potential move to the Premier League at his advanced age remains uncertain, especially given that retirement is a strong possibility for the German international, who delivered a stunning performance against Real Madrid last week in the Champions League.
Bayern Munich is making every effort to convince Neuer to extend his contract for another year. However, the current impasse lies in the Bavarian club’s desire to reduce the legendary goalkeeper’s salary, while the player insists on maintaining his current base pay with additional bonuses and incentives.
It’s worth noting that Neuer has rejected numerous offers from English clubs over the years, preferring to remain at the Allianz Arena. This makes a move to Brighton or Tottenham in the near future highly unlikely.
