Bayern Munich have identified Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon as a key target for the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
Manager Vincent Kompany is keen to increase competition for Luis Diaz, amid reports that the Bavarian giants are prepared to offer Newcastle £50 million for Gordon.
The English player has become Bayern Munich’s “dream candidate” to bolster their attacking options for next season, having impressed the club’s scouts throughout this campaign as the bright spot in Newcastle’s otherwise underwhelming season so far.
Bayern Munich have explored the possibility of signing the English player in recent days, with initial talks taking place between representatives of the German club and the player. It appears he is open to the idea of moving to the Allianz Arena should the German club succeed in persuading Newcastle to agree to the deal.
Newcastle are not expected to respond easily to offers, as Gordon has become one of the club’s most influential players and a key pillar of Eddie Howe’s system. The winger is under contract at St. James’ Park until 2030, putting Newcastle in a strong negotiating position. Crucially, there is no release clause in his contract, meaning the club retains complete control over his future.
Reports suggest that a fee in the region of £50 million (€60 million) would be required just to open formal negotiations.
Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton in January 2023 for over £38 million and has since developed into one of the most dangerous wingers in the Premier League.
