After missing five matches for Inter and two friendlies with the Argentine national team, Lautaro returned to the starting lineup last Sunday, scoring two goals in his team’s resounding 5-2 victory over Roma.

However, the club announced that he suffered a new strain in the same muscle he initially injured on February 18th during the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Bodø/Glimt.

The Serie A leaders confirmed that Martinez underwent medical tests which revealed a minor muscle strain. The club added in its statement: “Lautaro Martinez’s condition will be reassessed in the coming days.”

The 28-year-old striker is now expected to miss at least the next two league matches against Como and Cagliari, as well as the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final against Como.

This injury comes at a critical juncture for Martinez, who is currently aiming to win his third Serie A title with Inter Milan while also striving to maintain peak fitness ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Prior to this run of setbacks, the Serie A top scorer for the 2025-26 season was enjoying an exceptional campaign, having netted 20 goals and provided four assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.
