Borussia Dortmund announced in an official statement the renewal of Nico Schlotterbeck’s contract until the summer of 2031, effectively ending Real Madrid’s hopes of securing the German international’s services next summer.
Schlotterbeck’s profile was highly regarded by Los Blancos, and the fact that his contract with the Bundesliga giants was set to expire in 2027 made him an even more attractive target.
For a while, a deal seemed possible, especially given the stalled renewal talks between the player and Dortmund.
However, all those hopes have been dashed, as Dortmund announced the contract extension, making him one of the highest-paid players at Signal Iduna Park and the player with the longest contract on Niko Kovac’s roster.
Schlotterbeck can leave Dortmund if he wishes starting in the summer of 2027 with a release clause reportedly between €60 and €70 million, but he will certainly not be leaving the German giants next summer.
There is no doubt that this news represents a blow to Real Madrid, who seem to be losing their favorite targets in the defender market at a rapid pace; Dayot Upamecano has already renewed his contract with Bayern Munich, and Ibrahima Konate is close to signing a new contract with Liverpool.
