This season was supposed to see the first La Liga match played outside of Spain, specifically the Barcelona-Villarreal game, which was scheduled to be played in the United States last December, but was prevented by a strong campaign led by Real Madrid.

However, Tebas insists that a number of La Liga matches will be held outside of Spain in the future, and Morocco is a strong candidate to host these matches, especially given the proximity between the two countries and the absence of logistical obstacles.

Tebas stated in a press conference, “It is possible that some La Liga matches will be held in Morocco, specifically in Casablanca.”

He added, “There is a huge number of La Liga fans in Morocco, and the logistical obstacles related to travel are minimal.”

He continued, “We are witnessing great enthusiasm for La Liga throughout the region, from Iraq to Morocco.”

“For Morocco specifically, there’s a special historical relationship that’s also evident in football,” he added. “There have always been strong ties and a close relationship between Spain and Morocco in the sporting arena in general, and in football in particular.”

Tebas didn’t specify which matches would be moved to Morocco in the future, but it’s logical that Real Madrid and Barcelona would be among the participating clubs to guarantee significant financial gains, given their immense popularity in the North African country.

It’s worth noting that Morocco previously hosted the Spanish Super Cup at the Ibn Battouta Stadium in Tangier, where Barcelona defeated Sevilla to win the title in 2018. The same competition is currently being held under a new format in Saudi Arabia.
