Egyptian media outlets have reported that Islam Issa, the Ceramica Cleopatra and Egypt national team star, is suspected of having a torn cruciate ligament.
The former Pyramids FC player left the friendly match against Spain with a knee injury that appeared severe, requiring him to be stretchered off the field.
Some Egyptian reports indicate that the initial diagnosis is a torn cruciate ligament, a significant blow for the player who has just begun to shine with the Egyptian national team.
However, sources within the Egyptian Football Association maintain that Issa has only suffered a knee sprain, and that the ligaments are undamaged.
Issa will undergo the necessary medical examinations and scans on Thursday, once the Pharaohs’ delegation returns to Cairo, to determine the final diagnosis.
Issa had attracted attention after scoring a brilliant goal in Egypt’s 4-0 friendly victory over Saudi Arabia in Jeddah.
If he suffers a cruciate ligament injury, the 30-year-old’s hopes of participating in the 2026 World Cup will be dashed.
