Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has begun to openly suggest in recent weeks that he doesn’t necessarily see a long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
It seems the Argentine international’s preferred destination could be Real Madrid. Enzo has been on Los Blancos’ radar since before his move to European football, and next summer could be the perfect opportunity for the Spanish giants to sign him.
Real Madrid have been linked with several players to bolster their midfield, most notably Rodri and Vitina, along with some younger options like Adam Wharton and Keis Smith.
Enzo is back in the spotlight after his recent comments in which he stated that he would be happy to live with his family in the Spanish capital, Madrid, which is seen as a clear flirtation with Los Blancos in the hope of signing him from Chelsea.
“I love Madrid very much,” Enzo told the Spanish media. “It’s similar to Buenos Aires. Yes, I would like to live in Madrid.”
Fernandez had previously stated that there was “nothing” currently with Real Madrid, but indicated he would reassess the situation after the World Cup. This followed his earlier reservations about committing to staying with Chelsea next season.
Fernandez’s departure from Chelsea would be imminent if the Blues fail to secure a Champions League spot next season. He joined the London club in the winter of 2013 for €141 million, the second-highest transfer fee in Premier League history.
