Barcelona has settled on the identity of the new player who will bolster the team’s defense in the upcoming summer transfer window, and sporting director Deco has already begun working to complete the deal.
According to Sport, Barcelona have identified Alessandro Bastoni as the ideal player to bolster Hansi Flick’s defense, which has struggled throughout the season.
There is complete agreement between Deco and Flick that Bastoni is the perfect signing this summer. They want a player with similar characteristics to Iñigo Martínez, whose departure to Al-Nassr in August has left a clear void. The fact that Bastoni possesses technical attributes very similar to the veteran Basque defender is a strong factor in his favor.
Barcelona hope to agree on personal terms with Bastoni in the coming weeks, which would pave the way for negotiations with Inter Milan.
So far, Inter have not set a price for Bastoni, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the Nerazzurri demanded between €70 and €80 million.
Unless Inter lower their asking price to €50 or €60 million, it will be virtually impossible for Barcelona to meet that figure, especially if the club continues to operate outside of La Liga’s 1:1 transfer rules.
