Thomas Tuchel has recalled Ben White to the England squad for the first time in over three years, a move that particularly shocked Real Madrid star Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Tuchel’s initial 35-man squad omitted Arnold, with the German coach stating at the time that he was confident in his choices at right-back.
Garrell Quansah was injured in Bayer Leverkusen’s recent match against Heidenheim, and Arnold was expected to replace him. However, Tuchel once again opted against calling up the Real Madrid star.
Instead, Tuchel called up Arsenal’s Ben White, who hasn’t featured for his country since leaving the Three Lions camp before the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
White, 27, last played for England in a friendly against Ivory Coast in March 2022.
Now White returns and will be part of Tuchel’s squad, which faces Uruguay on March 27 and Japan on March 31 in a final warm-up before the 2026 World Cup.
Arnold had previously expressed his indifference to Tuchel’s decisions regarding him, tweeting after Real Madrid’s derby win against Atlético Madrid, “Madrid, nothing else.”
