Marca reports that Fede Valverde will face a hefty ban following referee Montero’s report on his red card in the derby against Atlético Madrid.
The Uruguayan international received a straight red card in the 78th minute after a reckless challenge on Alex Baena.
Marca quoted Montero’s report, which stated, “Valverde was sent off for the following reason: kicking an opponent, outside the play, with excessive force.”
As a result of this report, Valverde faces a minimum two-match suspension, which would initially rule him out of the La Liga matches against Mallorca in Matchday 30 and Girona in Matchday 31 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Real Madrid, furious with the referee’s decision, decided to appeal the straight red card, despite Florentino Pérez’s administration believing the suspension is unlikely to be overturned.
The newspaper quoted a statement from the Real Madrid dressing room during discussions about the dismissal, without specifying its source: “If Koke (Atlético’s captain) had committed that foul, it would have been a 100% yellow card.”
Real Madrid TV attacked Monuera, calling his decision scandalous, and added, “We know Monuera has a mural of Messi in his house. Does he have the legitimacy to referee the derby? Is this normal?”
