Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich is eager to eliminate Real Madrid from the Champions League, seeking revenge for the Spanish giants’ dominance over the Bavarian powerhouse in recent years.
The 31-year-old has never beaten Real Madrid, having faced them five times, drawing twice and losing three times.
With Kimmich on the pitch, Real Madrid have knocked Bayern Munich out of the Champions League three times: in 2017, 2018, and most recently in the 2014 semi-finals.
“The anticipation is huge,” Kimmich told reporters ahead of the Real Madrid match. “We’ve played several games against Real Madrid since I joined the team, and every time we’ve been eliminated.”
He added, “We weren’t the weaker team most of the time; we were simply unlucky. It’s time to change that. We’re in high spirits and looking forward to this match.”
Bayern Munich enters the match after an easy 4-0 victory over Union Berlin, which allowed them to maintain their lead in the German league standings, eight points ahead of Borussia Dortmund.
