Flick Announces Retirement After Leaving Barcelona!

Hansi Flick confirmed that working at Barcelona will be the last thing he does in his coaching career, indicating his openness to renewing his contract with the Catalan club.

Joan Laporta had previously announced that he would move to renew Flick’s contract, which expires in the summer of 2027, once he won another term as Barcelona president.

At the press conference before the Newcastle match, Flick was asked about renewing his contract with Barcelona, to which he replied, “Everyone knows I’m very happy here, but I have to talk to my family. There will be a good time to talk, not now.”

He added, “Obviously, I love working here. The most important thing for me is that I live with a wonderful family here. I have the support of Barcelona.”

He concluded by announcing his retirement at the end of his time with Barcelona: “I’m not thinking about going anywhere else. This will be my last club, my last job, and I’m very happy.”

Flick has a distinguished career as an assistant coach, having been part of Joachim Löw’s staff that led Germany to the 2014 World Cup title.

He then served as Niko Kovac’s assistant at Bayern Munich before taking over as head coach of the Bavarian club in November 2019, guiding them to a historic sextuple.

Folke subsequently had an unsuccessful stint with the German national team before taking over as Barcelona manager in the summer of 2014, succeeding Xavi Hernandez. Last season, he led them to a domestic treble.
