The Premier League has imposed a hefty £10 million fine on Chelsea, along with a one-year transfer ban, suspended.
This penalty comes after the club admitted to making £47 million in unauthorized payments to unregistered agents or third parties in deals made between 2011 and 2018.
According to the league, this fine, the largest in the history of the English competition, was initially set at £20 million, but was reduced by 50% due to Chelsea’s proactive self-reporting and full cooperation with the investigation.
The Premier League report named several deals linked to the unregistered payments, including those involving Eden Hazard, Samuel Eto’o, Willian, Ramires, David Luiz, André Schürrle, and Nemanja Matić. There is no indication that any of these players committed any wrongdoing.
Chelsea also received an immediate nine-month ban on registering academy players and a £750,000 fine for irregularities in registering academy players between 2019 and 2022.
It is worth noting that in 2023, the Blues were fined £8.6 million by UEFA for providing incomplete financial information for the period between 2012 and 2019.
