Moroccan press reports indicate that a Premier League star has decided to represent the Moroccan national team instead of France.
The player in question is Issa Diop, the Fulham star, who holds French, Senegalese, and Moroccan citizenship, but has yet to represent any of the three national teams.
It is reported that officials from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation met with Diop in recent days to persuade him to wear the Atlas Lions jersey in the next stage of his career.
Diop, 29, is inclined to accept the Moroccan offer and represent the North African nation, although Senegal, in particular, has also shown strong interest in the player.
Diop has previously played six matches for the French under-21 team, but has never represented the senior national team despite his impressive performances over the past five years.
If the process of officially changing his sporting nationality is completed, national team coach Mohamed Wahbi is expected to call up the player to join the upcoming training camp.
The Moroccan national team is preparing to play two friendly matches during March, as it will face the Ecuadorian national team on March 27 in Spain, and then Paraguay on March 31 in France.
