Mendy suffers new injury; Real Madrid confirms his absence

Real Madrid announced in an official statement that veteran player Ferland Mendy has suffered a hamstring injury, which will sideline him for a period of time.

The statement read: “Following tests carried out on our player Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury in his right leg. His recovery will continue to be monitored.”

Mendy sustained the injury during Real Madrid’s recent match against Manchester City. After starting at left-back to fill in for the injured Álvaro Carreras, the 30-year-old Frenchman was forced to be substituted in the 47th minute due to the problem.

Although the club did not release a specific timeframe for Mendy’s return, reports indicate he will be out for between one and three weeks.

Consequently, he will miss Saturday’s La Liga match against Elche, as well as the return leg against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium next week.
