Lamine Yamal was unable to participate in Barcelona’s training session on Thursday morning due to an injury sustained in their recent Champions League match against Newcastle.
Yamal scored a crucial late penalty for Barcelona against the Magpies at St. James’ Park, securing a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie.
According to the newspaper Sport, Yamal left the Newcastle match in pain, and for this reason, the medical staff, in agreement with coach Hansi Flick, opted to give him more time to rest before resuming training and matches.
The newspaper confirmed that Barcelona is confident their star player will return to group training on Friday in preparation for their upcoming La Liga match against Sevilla.
Flick may prefer to keep the 18-year-old on the bench against the Andalusian club so that he is fully fit for the crucial Newcastle match, in which Barcelona needs a win to advance to the quarterfinals.
It is worth noting that Yamal has made a total of 37 appearances for Barcelona this season in all competitions, scoring 23 goals and providing 15 assists.
