Alisson’s absence from Liverpool’s Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Galatasaray was a surprise to many.
The Brazilian international is the Reds’ first-choice goalkeeper this season and rarely misses a match unless injured.
However, Arne Slott opted to start Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Alisson was absent from the squad that traveled to Turkey, sparking much speculation about the reason.
According to English media reports, Alisson suffered a sudden weight gain, which led Slott to exclude him from the Galatasaray match.
The Brazilian goalkeeper gained 4 kilograms above the weight limit set by the medical staff, and for this reason, and perhaps as a form of punishment, he was left out of the game.
Alisson is now on a strict diet to lose weight and return to guard Liverpool’s goal in the match against Tottenham next Sunday at Anfield.
