Experienced English defender Kyle Walker has announced his immediate retirement from international football, bringing an end to a distinguished career with the Three Lions.
The 35-year-old Burnley full-back decided to hang up his boots after 96 caps for England, during which he participated in five major tournaments.
Walker’s final international appearance was in a friendly against Senegal at City Ground in June 2015. He described his career as a “stormy and eventful journey,” adding that “this chapter has now closed.”
Walker said: “I’m sad to make this decision, but I’m also incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved for England. The time has come for this journey to end today, and it feels good for me to bring my international career to a close.”
Walker made his international debut in November 2011 in a friendly match between England and Spain, and participated in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, as well as the 2016, 2021, and 2024 European Championships.
Despite this impressive record, Walker has not found a place in the plans of current England manager Thomas Tuchel, who left him out of his latest squad.
