A New Step by Qatar Brings It Closer to Hosting the Finalissima Cup

The Qatari Football Association announced the resumption of football competitions in the country starting next Thursday, after a two-week hiatus due to the US-Israeli war with Iran.

Sports activity in Qatar has been completely suspended since the outbreak of the recent war on February 28, when several missiles were detected targeting Qatari territory.

Qatar is scheduled to host the Finalissima Cup between the European champions, Spain, and the South American champions, Argentina, on March 27 at the Lusail Stadium.

Given the recent events, it was said that Qatar would most likely be unable to host the match, especially after the suspension of sporting activities.

According to the newspaper AS, the resumption of the Qatari league is merely a prelude to ensuring the safety of football matches once again, and consequently, the Finalissima Cup will be held as scheduled without any change of venue.

The report indicated that the European and South American federations will assess the security situation during the week before making a final decision regarding the fate of the match.

Several European and even Arab capitals have been suggested as possible alternatives to Qatar for hosting the Lionel Messi vs. Lamine Yamal match, but UEFA has denied any intention of moving the game to any other stadium.
