Spanish journalist Pepe Estrada claims that Jürgen Klopp has rejected an offer from Real Madrid and prefers to coach another prominent club in La Liga.
Klopp, who is close to leaving his position as head of football at Red Bull, seems to be opening the door to a possible return to coaching after a two-year hiatus.
Klopp was Real Madrid’s top target to succeed Álvaro Arbeloa, and according to Estrada, talks took place between the German coach and the Spanish giants, ultimately leading to the 59-year-old’s rejection of Los Blancos’ offer.
Meanwhile, Klopp has reportedly welcomed the opportunity to coach Atlético Madrid. Mark Rowan, CEO of Apollo, the club’s owners, has reportedly initiated direct negotiations with the German coach in recent weeks to replace Diego Simeone.
Negotiations between Atlético Madrid and Klopp are reportedly at an advanced stage, with the manager informing the Spanish club’s management that he loves Atlético’s identity and this type of challenge.
Klopp sees Atlético Madrid as similar to Borussia Dortmund in Germany and Liverpool in England, a club that challenges established giants, much like the German manager himself. This has encouraged him to consider joining the Wanda Metropolitano.
It’s worth noting that Diego Simeone’s time at Atlético Madrid is nearing its end. He is said to have lost the confidence of the club’s new owners, and there have been disagreements between him and the new sporting director, Mateo Alemany, in recent months.
