The newspaper “Defensa Central” revealed Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez’s new plans for who will take over as manager of the Royal Club next season.
Pérez’s administration is inclined to end Álvaro Arbeloa’s tenure as manager at the end of the current season, unless he succeeds in winning La Liga and the Champions League, a task that seems extremely difficult.
Jürgen Klopp, head of global football at Red Bull, is Real Madrid’s top target, but the German does not intend to leave his position and does not prefer to return to football management.
Pérez still considers the German school of coaching the best option for the future, and after the failure with Klopp, the Madrid president has now set his sights on Julian Nagelsmann, the German national team coach.
Real Madrid’s interest in signing Nagelsmann is not new; the Royal Club tried to sign him in 2018, but the deal fell through.
Perez has reiterated his interest in Nagelsmann, whose contract with the German national team runs until Euro 2028.
Nagelsmann is expected to be available after the 2026 World Cup, regardless of whether Germany wins the title or is eliminated early, especially given the 38-year-old’s desire to return to club management.
It’s worth noting that Nagelsmann began his coaching career with Hoffenheim, then moved to RB Leipzig, before taking over at Bayern Munich, where he was dismissed after a year and a half. He has been managing the German national team since 2023.
