Benfica defender Nicolas Otamendi has been indirectly involved in a racism controversy with Vinicius Junior, all because of his brother.
A confrontation occurred between Otamendi and Vinicius during the first leg at the Estádio da Luz, where the Argentine provoked the Real Madrid star by showing off a tattoo depicting the number of titles he has won with his country.
The same match also saw another altercation between Vinicius Junior and Gianluca Prestini, in which the Brazilian star accused the Benfica player of racially abusing him. This incident is now under investigation by UEFA.
Otamendi has now found himself in an embarrassing situation after his brother posted a racist message about Vinicius on his Instagram account.
Otamendi’s brother posted a picture of Vinicius as a monkey, which he later deleted, but the media had already captured it.
Otamendi will not be punished for what his brother did, but the picture puts him in a socially embarrassing position, especially since there are those who accuse the player of being behind the shot, but from his brother’s account.
