Inter Milan suffered an early exit from the Champions League, losing in the Round of 16 play-off round to Bodø/Glimt in one of the biggest upsets of the competition so far.
The Norwegian club had won the first leg 3-1 at home, meaning the Nerazzurri needed to win by three goals in the return leg to advance to the Round of 16.
Inter made numerous attempts to reduce the deficit and get back into the game, but Jes Petter Hauge stunned the home crowd by putting Bodø/Glimt ahead in the 58th minute, and Haakon Evene added a second goal in the 72nd minute.
In a desperate attempt to salvage a comeback, Alessandro Bastoni scored for Inter in the 78th minute, but it wasn’t enough to complete the turnaround.
Inter lost the first leg 3-1 and the second leg 2-1, for a 5-2 aggregate score, ending last season’s runners-up campaign prematurely. The Nerazzurri now have only the Serie A and Coppa Italia competitions left to win, or at least one of them, this season.
Meanwhile, Bodø/Glimt secured their place in the Round of 16, and the draw will determine their opponent, which will be either Manchester City or Sporting Lisbon.
