Lionel Messi appeared visibly angry with the refereeing team after Inter Miami’s humiliating 3-0 defeat to Los Angeles FC in their MLS season opener.
A video circulating widely on social media shows the Argentine legend chasing after the final whistle before being stopped by his former teammate Luis Suarez.
The MLS opener was intended to be a showcase for Messi, but he faced a difficult evening in front of nearly 76,000 fans at the Memorial Coliseum.
The 36-year-old’s frustration was evident even during the match, as he had several conversations with the referees, seemingly focused on the number of times he was fouled by Los Angeles FC’s compact defense.
After the match and Miami’s defeat at the start of their title defense campaign, Messi vented his anger on the referee and almost entered the referees’ room and attacked the refereeing team, but Suarez intervened at the last moment and prevented him from doing so.
