Ivan Toney missed his first penalty for Al-Ahli during the Saudi club’s victory over Al-Najma in the Roshan League last Thursday.
Since joining Al-Ahli in the summer of 2014, Toney had converted every penalty he had taken, boasting an incredible record of 24 successful penalties across all the clubs he has represented.
This was only Toney’s third missed penalty overall in his career.
However, the English star perhaps made up for his missed penalty in the best possible way, scoring a hat-trick that led Al-Ahli to a 4-1 victory and kept them in pursuit of league leaders Al-Hilal.
When asked after the match about his first miss, Toney replied, “I was expecting this question. This miss proves that I am human.”
He added, “The most important thing is that I responded. It’s true I missed a penalty, but in the end, I scored a hat-trick.”
It’s worth noting that Toney scored another penalty in the final minutes of the Al-Najma match, making up for almost everything in the most successful way.
Toney maintained his lead in the 2026 Saudi League top scorers’ standings, reaching 23 goals, five ahead of his closest rival and the top scorer of the last two seasons, Cristiano Ronaldo.
