Xabi Alonso received a new offer in recent days to return to the Real Madrid bench, but the Spaniard rejected it, preferring to wait before taking his next step in the world of coaching.
Alonso was dismissed from his position as Real Madrid coach in mid-January following a 3-2 loss to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia.
The Spaniard received an offer from Eintracht Frankfurt to succeed Dino Toppüller a few weeks ago, but he declined. Now, he has received a new offer, this time from Olympique de Marseille.
Roberto De Zerbi was dismissed from his position as Marseille coach after a string of poor results, culminating in the French club’s humiliating 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
The prestigious club is searching for a new coach who can lead their promising project in the coming period, and therefore contacted Alonso in recent days in the hope of persuading him to take the job.
According to RMC Sport, Alonso showed no interest in coaching Marseille and rejected the offer, leading the club to ultimately appoint Habib Beye, the former Rennes coach.
It is worth noting that English media outlets are reporting that Alonso is likely to become Liverpool’s new manager next season if the club decides to part ways with Dutchman Arne Slot at Anfield.
