Como coach Cesc Fabregas launched a scathing attack on his striker Alvaro Morata after he received a red card during Saturday’s Serie A match against Fiorentina.
Como lost 2-0 to Fiorentina, with the Viola taking a 2-0 lead through goals from Feghouli and Kean. Fabregas’s men then had a glimmer of hope with an own goal by Baresi, but Morata dashed those hopes by receiving a red card in the 89th minute.
Morata’s dismissal stemmed from a confrontation with two Fiorentina players, resulting in two yellow cards in less than a minute, followed by the red card.
Fabregas criticized his compatriot Morata, saying, “He didn’t deserve that red card. The provocation he faced is part of football. If you can’t handle that, you should find another sport.”
He added, “We expect a lot from a player of his experience, so we can’t make excuses for him. He shouldn’t be affected by what others do on the pitch; he needs to control his temper when provoked by opponents.”
It’s worth noting that the 33-year-old Morata is not having his best season, having scored only one goal in 18 appearances for Como across all competitions.
