Rodri’s father, Antonio Hernandez, has stirred controversy regarding his son’s future with Manchester City and the possibility of renewing his contract, which expires in the summer of 2027, amidst strong interest from Real Madrid in signing the Spanish star.
Rodri has recently returned to regular playing time with Manchester City after a series of injuries that sidelined him for over a year, and it seems the English club’s management is determined to keep the player and renew his contract.
Spanish media outlets have confirmed that Real Madrid wants to sign Rodri next summer, or wait for him on a free transfer in the summer of 2027, given Florentino Perez’s firm belief that the Ballon d’Or winner is the only player capable of replacing Toni Kroos at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Rodri’s father was asked about the progress of the contract renewal negotiations, to which he responded cryptically, “I can’t say anything. He’s very happy where he is. I don’t know anything; the story hasn’t been written yet.”
He added, “This year has been very difficult, but he’s recovered well from his year-long absence. There are always some muscle problems, but now he’s at the top of his game and very eager to play in the World Cup.”
He concluded, “He probably doesn’t know where he’ll play yet. He’s negotiating, but I don’t know anything.”
