In a new developmental step reflecting the immense ambitions of Saudi football, the Saudi Professional League is considering implementing an “asymmetrical scheduling” system for league matches starting next season.
Currently, the Saudi League operates on a “mirror” system, where the second half of the season matches the first half, with only the venues being changed.
With this approach, the Saudi League is following in the footsteps of the English Premier League and several other major European leagues. This scheduling system offers greater flexibility in distributing high-profile matches and prevents their congestion within short periods, thus increasing competitiveness and organizational fairness.
This significant shift comes as part of the major transformation underway in the Saudi League, which has not been limited to organizational aspects alone. It has also included attracting some of the world’s top stars through record-breaking deals, most notably the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo, the French star Karim Benzema, and other prominent names.
These rapid moves aim to place the “Roshan League” among the top five leagues in the world, not only in terms of market value and stars, but also by adopting the best professional practices applied in the top five leagues, which enhances the league’s global appeal and ensures the delivery of a football product befitting the comprehensive sporting renaissance that the Kingdom is witnessing.
