Milan wants Luka Modric to stay and renew his contract, but the Croatian star remains hesitant. He has initially set three conditions for agreeing to remain at the San Siro until the summer of 2027.
The 39-year-old joined Milan last August after the end of his legendary career with Real Madrid and quickly established himself as a key player for the Rossoneri, earning the full confidence of coach Massimiliano Allegri.
Calciomercato reported that everyone at Milan, from the cooks and cleaners to the coaching staff and players, loves Modric. The report highlighted the significant role the player plays not only on the pitch but also in the dressing room.
Modric has also delivered outstanding performances on the field, belying his age. This is why Allegri is keen to retain him and is eager for him to stay with the Italian club next season, a sentiment shared by the management.
In principle, Modric is open to staying at Milan for another year, but there are three conditions he must meet to take this step, especially since his current contract gives him the right to decide his own future and doesn’t allow Milan to renew for another year without his consent.
The first crucial point for Modric is Milan’s final position in Serie A, and consequently, whether they will qualify for the Champions League next season. The Rossoneri are currently in second place, eight points behind league leaders Inter.
The second point is the World Cup results. If Croatia reaches the semi-finals again, or even wins the title as Modric dreams, he might then decide to retire and bring his career to a close.
The final point depends on the opinion of Modric’s family, as well as the player’s physical condition after the World Cup and his belief that he can perform at the same level for another year.
