The last half-hour of the Manchester City vs. Liverpool match at Anfield in the 25th round of the 2026 Premier League was a thrilling affair.
The game was evenly matched, with Manchester City having a slight edge throughout the first half and much of the second, until the 74th minute.
At that moment, Dominik Szoboszlai took a free kick from the edge of the penalty area, unleashing an unstoppable shot that left Gianluigi Donnarumma helpless as it nestled into the back of the net.
It seemed like the game was within Arne Slott’s grasp, but City refused to give up. Bernardo Silva managed to equalize in the 83rd minute after a header from Erling Haaland, which fell to him near Alisson Becker’s goal.
As the match drew to a close, the referee awarded City a penalty, which Haaland converted past Alisson to give City the lead in the 93rd minute.
Liverpool almost equalized in the 97th minute when Florian Wirtz’s shot was brilliantly saved by Donnarumma.
City thought they had scored a third goal through Rayan Cherki, but it was disallowed, and Szoboszlai received a red card in the dying moments.
With this result, City continue their pursuit of Arsenal, reaching 50 points in second place, six points behind the leaders, while Liverpool remain on 39 points in sixth place.
